Will Run for Cookies - A Winner!
On May 15, Dakin inaugurated its first Will Run for Cookies event, a 5K run/2K walk, which gave participants an opportunity to celebrate and share in a special activity with their dogs, as well as raise much-needed funds that support Dakin’s programs as well as animals in our care. Nearly $20,000 was raised to help keep people and pets together.
More than 200 people registered to run or walk at Westfield’s Stanley Park, many with their dogs by their side. Early morning light rain gave way to a sunny day and runners/walkers enjoyed the park in its blooming glory. One visitor to the event brought his two cats, each of them leashed and harnessed for their safety.
Congratulations to Nicholas Garde, who ran the 5k in 22:20. Coming in just one second behind him was Dhaval Patel. Click here for a complete list of timed participants. Prizes were awarded to people who came in first in several age brackets.
In keeping with the tradition of the event, each human and dog participant was treated to a cookie upon completion of the course, thanks to our cookie sponsors; Brew Biscuits, Stop & Shop in Westfield, and Aunt Cathie’s Kitchen. Wickedly Wild Waffles was also on hand to offer up some tasty snacks for the crowd, while Matt Peterson from 94.7 WMAS provided a party atmosphere. We thank our vendors for their generosity.
Paws up to our event sponsors Rovi Homes, Berkshire Bank, Finck & Perras Insurance Agency Inc., Health New England, the Polish National Credit Union, and VCA Animal Hospitals, as well as our media sponsors 94.7 WMAS and The Republican.
Plans are already underway to run for cookies in 2023!
