Do you want to work in an environment that is welcoming, friendly, supportive, and has no shortage of humor? If this sounds like you then Dakin Humane Society wants to know!

Dakin is looking to hire a full-time Veterinary Technician to join our team and deliver our mission.  As the only non-profit, full-service animal welfare organization serving our region, we need to help a lot of people (and their animals). You can help us do it.

If you are an organized individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working with people, and has excellent time management and organizational skills, we want to hear from you.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating animals for disease, injury or other health issues and reporting concerns to shelter veterinarian
  • Initiating treatment for sick animals based on written medical protocols
  • Providing medical support and guidance to our foster care volunteers
  • Reviewing and discussing medical records with clients and staff
  • Providing technical assistance to our shelter veterinarian including radiology, lab work and surgical assistance/anesthesia monitoring

We are looking for applicants with prior experience working as a technician in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic.  Applicants must be proficient in monitoring animals under anesthesia and be able to work independently.  Clear communication, attention to detail, and ability to focus with multiple priorities is necessary.

This position is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with cats!

This position requires working one weekend day. Excellent benefits including extremely generous PTO for full-time employees (like 30 days in your second year of full-time employment, 35 days in your third year)!

Interested in applying?

Please fill out the form at the bottom of this page and submit both your cover letter and your resume.

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour

Veterinarians (part time, per diem)
Dakin Humane Society is seeking Veterinarians who are interested in per diem or part-time work to assist us during our peak season and also to help fill in for some temporary, unexpected absences on our veterinary team. Work is available now and we anticipate ongoing need through at least September.

Our primary need is in our Adoption Center to treat animals after intake, in foster care or at the facility prior to adoption, and clearing from out-of-state transport. Protocols and qualified support staff are in place. Dakin maintains compliance with Shelter Organization Regulations set by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

In 2023, Dakin had a 42% increase in intakes compared to the previous year and we were able to complete nearly 2,800 adoptions. We anticipate similar intake rates in 2024 and per diem veterinary coverage in the Adoption Center will be important in maintaining the health of these animals and placing them into foster and adoptive homes quickly.

While coverage in our Adoption Center is our highest priority, we also have occasional need for per diem veterinarians trained in high-volume spay/neuter and for coverage during scheduled vacations for veterinarians in our Pet Health Center (dakinpethealthcenter.org).

Hourly rates are negotiable within an employer set range based on experience, availability, and department. Applicants must have a current Massachusetts veterinary license in good standing.

Please reach out to us at search@dakinhumane.org to learn more. And, please feel free to share this opportunity with others in your network!

Development & Database Coordinator (full time)

Do you daydream about having a job that combines your impeccable attention to detail with your love for animals? If yes, we may have an opening for you. Already got your dream job? Please share this posting with someone you think would be awesome and wants to work on behalf of animals.

If you are a natural at going down a rabbit hole of data (not literally of course, wild rabbits should be left where you found them, and they're the only ones who use those holes) to problem-solve, have superior attention to detail, and want to provide a high level of customer service, this job may be for you. Do you want to work in an environment that is welcoming, friendly, and supportive? If this sounds like you, then Dakin Humane Society wants to meet you!

We need a full-time Development & Database Coordinator to join our Development team and deliver on our mission. As the only non-profit, full-service animal welfare organization serving our region, we need to help a lot of animals. You can help us do it.

If you will take initiative to solve problems and recognize the importance that gratitude and appreciation can play in life, but also to move our mission forward, love a challenge and enjoy staying busy, we want to hear from you. Also, you must be proficient in utilizing Salesforce (we get a lot of gifts). Equally important is your ability to capture records with accuracy and efficiency without the records looking like a cat stepped on your keyboard. Your day will be filled with office work, occasionally manning our development phone line and email, and there will be the chance to work at Dakin’s most popular events like Barks and Brews. Plus an office companion may keep you company during the day.

Typically the work week would be M - F, with the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule of 3 days in the office, 2 days remote, and occasional weekends for events or during peak gift-giving season. What’s the pay? $18-20 to start based on experience. Excellent benefits including extremely generous PTO for full-time employees (like 37 days in your second year of full-time employment, 42 days in your third year)!
