Dakin Humane Society’s Pet Food Aid program was created more than 15 years ago to assist people who are experiencing an unexpected, personal emergency and need temporary assistance with dog and cat food.
Dakin maintains an appointment-based system for pet food pick-up. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you are in need of food for your dog or cat, please click the button below to schedule an appointment.
Pick-up dates will be scheduled twice a month and added on a rolling basis (two weeks prior to each date), so please check back regularly if you don’t see any appointments available.
We rely on the generosity of donors and in-kind donations to supply our Pet Food Aid program. We only supply dry food and we are unable to supply specialty foods or ingredient lists for pets with allergies or other medical concerns.
Please note that we are unable to accommodate walk-up requests from people who do not have a pick-up appointment scheduled. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
You Can Help Support The Pet Food Aid Program
Much of the food distributed through Dakin's Pet Food Aid program has been graciously donated by members of our community. We warmly welcome donations of unopened dry cat and dog food. Also, you can order food to be shipped directly to Dakin through our Amazon and Chewy wish lists. Monetary gifts support this program by helping us purchase food for distribution. Check the "Pet Food Aid Fund" box when making your gift online.
Donations are welcomed daily outside our Springfield Animal Resource Center at 171 Union Street.
Why We Need Pet Food Aid Programs
- Food stamps and other forms of assistance don’t allow for the purchase of pet food, and people will often sacrifice their own food for their pets
- Many clients need the food on a short-term basis, which helps keep the program sustainable
- Pet Food Aid programs serve as a critical resource during times of disaster or crisis
- We are able to ensure the availability of both cat and dog food for both types of pets
