Rally's Remarkable Recovery

Earlier this year, a tiny stray cat named Rally arrived at Dakin after spending several days taking shelter in someone's garage. It was clear she was desperately ill. She wasn't eating, and the kind people who found her knew she needed help right away.
When Rally came through our doors, she was barely hanging on.
She weighed just 3.88 pounds and was dangerously dehydrated, severely underweight, and so weak she couldn't even stand on her own. Her eyes and nose were painfully caked with discharge, making it difficult to see or breathe. She suffered from severe nasal congestion, hypothermia, and was in very serious condition. Although her frail body made her appear elderly, Rally was only about a year old.
The truth is, she was running out of time. Another day without treatment likely would have been her last.
Even during her initial exam, we didn't know if she would survive the night. But she was young, and despite how critically ill she was, her conditions were ones our medical team knew how to treat. We believed she deserved every chance we could give her.
As we developed her treatment plan, someone suggested the perfect name: Rally. It felt like a promise—a reminder that we were all rooting for her to keep fighting.
Over the next few weeks, Rally received around-the-clock care from our veterinary team. It took ten different medications, countless exams, supportive treatments, and lots of patience to help her tiny body heal. She rested in a cozy bed between treatments, soaking up every bit of comfort and care, and later continued her recovery in a loving foster home.
Day by day, Rally grew a little stronger. She never gave up, taking every medication like a champion and proving just how much fight she had left in her.
A month later, it was hard to believe she was the same cat.
She had nearly doubled her intake weight, her bright personality had emerged, and she was healthy enough to begin the next chapter of her life. After spending time getting to know her, her new family decided she had "just the right amount of sass" and was exactly the companion they'd been searching for.
Watching Rally go home with a family who loves her was a moment our veterinary team won't soon forget. It was a powerful reminder of what's possible when compassionate people come together for an animal in need.
From the person who found her, to our veterinary team, foster volunteers, and now her adoptive family, Rally's story is one of kindness, determination, and hope. We're so grateful we could be there when she needed us most—and even more grateful that today, she's exactly where she belongs.
