Paws in the Snow

Sam & Sandi (from North Carolina), solving this mystery together!
Winter in New England doesn’t stop for anyone—and that includes Dakin dogs who need a bathroom break. No matter how high the snow piles up, the mission remains the same: bundle up, head outside, and find that perfect spot.
At Dakin, some of our dogs are seasoned snow veterans who trot out like, “Ah yes, winter again.” Others… not so much. Every now and then we welcome “first-timers”—dogs who’ve traveled north from southern states and are encountering snow for the very first time.

Their reactions? Let’s just say they range from brave explorer to deeply suspicious investigator. Some leap through the snowbanks like tiny Olympians. Others stare at the ground as if it has personally betrayed them. A few take one careful step, then look back at us as if to ask, “You’re seeing this too, right?”
But curiosity usually wins out, and before long most of them are bounding around, sniffing everything in sight, and enjoying their unexpected winter adventure.

Thanks to photos taken by Dakin volunteers and staff, we can see these Dakin pups venturing out after the recent storms. Some are hearty New England locals who know the snowy drill, while others are experiencing this mysterious white stuff for the very first time.
The best part? Every one of these pups has since been adopted!
But don’t worry—we still have plenty of wonderful dogs who would love to find their own families (and maybe experience their next snow day with you). Take a look and meet them here.
