Healing Bilbo's Heart

Nicolas Cage (bottom) cuddles with best pal Bilbo Swaggins

Every so often we receive an adoption update that just stands out. Here’s one we received from Jennifer’s family about a Dakin kitten named Nicolas Cage who they brought home to their cat, Bilbo Swaggins.

“I just wanted to share information on a cat we adopted from you in May of 2024. We kept his shelter name for the most part, and just added to it a bit. Let me reintroduce you to Nicolas Cage. We had adopted him shortly after our senior cat (Felix the Cat) had passed, as our other cat (Bilbo Swaggins) was devastated. He was howling all the time and was not his usual loving self.

So, although we were not ready for a new cat, Bilbo Swaggins needed a companion. Enter Nicolas Cage. This past year has been one for the books.

Nicolas Cage is a very active, and at times very troublesome baby. He has broken many things ranging from counter cups, to a whole pane of glass in a French door. He has also ended up bringing so much love and joy into our life. Unlike his older brother Bilbo Swaggins, who absolutely loves being held and snuggled, Nicolas Cage prefers to give love when he wants, but always enjoys pets.

Nicolas Cage NOT helping with the dishes

He requires his own pillow on top of the couch by the window for basking, but will only use it if I am sitting on the couch. He is an expert baker, as he is the best dough kneader. We do joke that he is running on one highly damaged brain cell, as he runs into everything especially windows. He also meows in lowercase, at times when he meows no sounds comes out at all! But his purrs are the loudest I've ever heard! He sounds like a cold start engine while purring!

Nicolas Cage loves to snuggle with his brother Bilbo Swaggins, and the two usually spend the morning running in circles and up and down the stairs together.

So, like I said, I just wanted to give an updated on this spectacular cat we were able to adopt from you, and of course thank you, for helping us help heal Bilbo Swaggins' heart.”
