Dakin Celebrates Volunteer Milestones
On June 22, Dakin hosted a special appreciation event for our incredible volunteers and foster caregivers. The crowd gathered at Two Weeks Brewing in West Springfield and enjoyed selections from their wide variety of craft beers and delicious pizza and snacks. Staff and volunteers kicked off the evening with some friendly competition – a scavenger hunt that prompted everyone to get to know each other by asking questions.
Dakin’s volunteers allow the organization to carry out its vision of a world where services that support the human-animal bond are accessible to all and companion animals are no longer vulnerable. We cannot do the work we do for pets and people without this group of dedicated and kind humans. In 2022, Dakin sent a record 1,678 animals into foster homes, which allowed them to wait to meet their adoptive families in a far less stressful environment.
Whether it’s your first year, tenth, or longer, you are valued, appreciated, and a trusted advocate for animals in need.
During the evening’s celebration, Community Engagement Manager Kaitlyn Holloway announced that Animal Resource Counselor Luis Roche will be stepping into the role of Dakin’s Volunteer Coordinator. This news was met with a thunderous round of applause from volunteers.
Staff members value opportunities to step out of the always-bustling shelter and have conversations with volunteers and get to know them better. We’re all in this together, working on the same mission for pets and the people who care about them. We are so lucky that we get to do this important work with you.
