Chicken Soup for the Soul Fills Bowls and Hearts

Dakin staff members celebrate the arrival of four pallets of donated food from Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food

Chicken Soup for the Soul is not only a popular series of books designed to inspire and uplift readers, it’s also a successful premium pet food company, Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food. Their belief is that pets, like their books, also have the power to inspire and uplift people, so they are as dedicated to pets as they are to the people who love them.

In keeping with the company’s mission to help all pets eat well, a portion of all proceeds from their pet food line goes to Chicken Soup for the Soul’s Fill-a-Bowl…Feed-a-Soul® program, which provides pet food to animal shelters.

Recently, Dakin was selected to receive 7,976 pounds of dog and cat food from the program, which will yield approximately 32,000 meals for pets in our care, as well as animals fed through our Pet Food Aid program. The gift is part of a national campaign that has donated over 4 million meals to pets in need since its inception in 2016.

The timing couldn’t be better, as Dakin’s animal population always spikes in the warm weather months, with more pets being brought to the shelter for re-homing.

“We chose to donate to Dakin because of its long history of dedication to the Springfield community, as well as outlying towns. Through its adoption, transport, and medical programs, Dakin has sheltered, rehabilitated and adopted out thousands of animals,” said Jeanne Blandford, senior director of marketing for Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food.

Dakin’s Executive Director Meg Talbert stated, “We couldn’t ask for a better partner to help us assist people when they are in need. There are so many challenges facing people that affect their ability to stay with their pets, and we are more determined than ever to remove as many of those barriers as possible. Thanks to the incredible generosity of Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food, we can offer valuable resources to our community to keep their pets fed and by their side, while also tending to the many pets in our care. We are grateful to this organization for joining us in offering compassion and comfort to so many - both animal and human - who need our help.”

We’re incredibly thankful to Chicken Soup for the Soul for their generous donation. Their kindness helps us ensure that pets stay with the people who love them, strengthening the fabric of our community.
