Volunteer Orientation Sessions
Volunteers make it possible for Dakin to serve more than 20,000 animals and their people each year. The first step volunteering with Dakin Humane Society is to attend a Volunteer Welcome Session. These gatherings take place once or twice a month. You'll learn more about Dakin, how you can get involved, and the different types of volunteer opportunities that are currently available.
Included in the Welcome Session is information about becoming a foster parent as well. Our Foster program saves lives and helps us get animals out of the potentially stressful shelter environment and into homes, allowing us to then help even more animals in need. Fosters can be as short term as a week or up to a few months, most animals that go into foster have medical needs as well - it all depends on each individual situation.
The session should last about an hour and a half and are held at either our Springfield Adoption Center at 171 Union Street, Springfield or our Leverett Adoption Center at 163 Montague Road, Leverett.
Note: At this time, we are only accepting animal care volunteers for morning (8-11am) and mid-day (12-2pm) dog and cat care shifts. Our greatest need at this time is helping with Phone Support or Greeters. If you are looking for an afternoon dog or cat care shift on weekdays or weekends, please check back frequently to see additional postings.
Upcoming Volunteer Orientation Sessions will be posted soon. Please check back!
New Foster Orientation Session
This is an introductory meeting for people interested in becoming Fosters. Our Foster program saves lives and helps us get animals out of the potentially stressful shelter environment and into homes, allowing us to then help even more animals in need. Fosters can be as short term as a week or up to a few months, and may or may not have medical needs as well - it all depends on each individual situation.
If you are willing to open your heart & home - please sign up to attend. The session should last about an hour is at our 171 Union Street location in Springfield.
Dakin is currently seeking fosters who can care for underage sick kittens, adult cats who are sick, as well as dogs with behavior issues that would do best in a house with no other animals.
