Please note: Due to COVID-19, we are not enrolling new volunteers in 2020. A huge THANK YOU to all our existing volunteers, who are helping out in new ways through all the changes this year is bringing! Check back for new volunteer opportunities in the spring of 2021. (August 2020)
Want to feel like the most important human in the world? Our animals certainly already think so of our volunteers! These positions work directly with our cats, dogs and small animals to keep their habitat clean and their spirits high! These positions require a 6-month commitment to at least one 2-hour shift per week.
Development and Event Volunteers
Dakin has so many wonderful stories to tell and we need volunteers to help us do that. If you can write a story that will stir the hearts of millions, take a picture worth a thousand words or love to talk to new people about your passion for animals - we would love your help! These positions have very flexible times and hours.
Pet Services Advocate
Ever wanted to make a huge impact in the lives of others, but weren't sure where to start? We have the answer! Dakin has many programs like our Community Spay/Neuter Clinic, Vaccine & Microchip Clinic and Pet Food Aid Program that help those in need stay with their animals by providing free and low cost assistance to keep them happy and healthy. These positions have flexible hours, but do require a 6-month commitment.
Places to go and things to see! Dakin transports animals between our Leverett and Springfield locations, picks up donations and delivers food for our Pet Food Aid Program to distribution centers. We are always looking for able bodied folks with mid- to large-sized vehicles to help us get things where they need to go!
While we may have many cats who offer to help us out in our offices, they are really terrible at scanning and accurately entering data (most of them just lay on the keyboard and call it a day). Our administrative volunteers help keep us organized so we can help the animals faster! Proficiency in word and Google products is needed for this position and it requires at least a 6-month commitment but with a very flexible schedule.
Foster care volunteers take Dakin animals into their home and care for them while they grow up, get well, or get ready for adoption. Foster volunteers must be able to travel regularly to our Springfield location. For more information on becoming a foster home, visit our Foster Care page.
