In our ongoing efforts to provide the most innovative services possible for animals and the people who love them, Dakin Humane Society offers the Snip Trip Program. This volunteer-run program enables people in western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut to have their cats spayed or neutered by the veterinarian team at Dakin’s Community Spay/Neuter Clinic in Springfield, MA and provides round-trip transportation to and from the Clinic by a Dakin Volunteer.
How the Program Works:
The Snip Trip Program is run by appointment only. Call Dakin’s Community Spay/Neuter Clinic at (413) 781-4019 to book a Snip Trip for your cat(s). Your information will be passed along to the Snip Trip Coordinator (Ann) who will return your call to confirm the appointment day. She will also discuss the pick-up and return time for your pet, other services offered, surgery preparation information and fee confirmation.
Snip Trips take place approximately once a month and involve 6-10 cats during the transportation. Trips are grouped together based on caller demand and geographic location, and are scheduled on a first come, first served basis.
The pick-up time will always be in the morning, as all cats will need to arrive to the Clinic by 11:30am. Animals are expected to stay overnight and are discharged the next morning at around 9:30am. Depending on location, most animals are back in their homes by noon.
The basic cost for the round-trip transportation and surgery starts at $75. Rabies and FVRCP vaccines are included with the price of surgery. Other services can be added for additional fees, including:
- Microchipping ($20)
- Feline leukemia testing ($30)
- Nail trimming ($10)
- Deworming ($15)
- Flea/Ear Mite Treatment ($10)
All fees must be paid in cash only.
For the safety of your cat and our staff, we require that all adult cats be in an individual plastic or cardboard cat carrier at time of pick-up. One cat per carrier. If not, we will charge a $10 cardboard carrier fee for each cat needing a separate carrier.

When given access to resources and information, people will make positive decisions on behalf of their pets. Dakin’s Snip Trip Program is proud to assist people who may face challenges bringing their pets to our Community Spay/Neuter Clinic, and provide them the opportunity to take this responsible step in pet care.
