Every year Dakin takes in many pets in their golden years for a variety of reasons - loss of housing or income, the passing of their loved one, or physical inability to care for the pet. But these senior pets still have so much more love to give and life to live. With care and the right family these loving and lovely pets can enjoy their “retirement” for years to come.
When you donate to our Adopt A Retired Pet program, you provide the space, medical care, and enrichment that these cats and dogs need to thrive while waiting for their perfect retirement home.
Meet Princess who came to us after her family lost their housing. This 11 year old beauty had lived with the same people her entire life, so naturally change has been difficult. On arrival she was scared, confused, and in some discomfort from gum disease. She’s now had surgery to remove the painful teeth and learned her Dakin caregivers aren’t so bad. She’s an affectionate and loving kitty who’s ready to begin “retirement” with her new family.
Senior pets may need a little extra time, some extra resources, or maybe an expensive procedure for them to be adopted, but the love and happiness they can bring to a new family are well worth it!
