Dr. Dena Long – Medical Director
Appointed Dakin’s medical director in 2019, Dr. Long was an associate at Underhill Animal Hospital in Orlando, FL where she practiced integrative medicine and provided in-home hospice and euthanasia service. She also worked as a medical director for Banfield in New York, a partner for West Parc Veterinary Clinic in New York, and served as a medical director for Total Pet Complex in Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra, FL. Dr. Long earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine, and a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan College in Georgia. Prior to that, Dr. Long conducted an internship for Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center in Atlanta. She studied Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine with an emphasis on veterinary acupuncture, and is a human health coach. Dr. Long has an Australian Terrier named Bingo who also serves as her office assistant.
Dr. Sherri Therrien - Veterinarian
Dr. Therrien began working as a spay/neuter veterinarian at Dakin in 2009, following time spent as a relief veterinarian working with several organizations in central and western Massachusetts including Dakin Humane Society. She also worked as a shelter veterinarian at the Massachusetts SPCA in Springfield. Previously, Dr. Therrien was the Boston territory manager for Innovative Veterinary Diets and presented educational seminars on nutrition and disease prevention at area hospitals as well as technical support and consultation on nutritional case management for Boston area veterinary clinics. Dr. Therrien earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine, and her Bachelor of Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She is a member of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association and the International Veterinary Forensic Sciences Association. Dr. Therrien shares her home with Wilson, an Australian Shepherd who has retired from being her office assistant.
Dr. Rebecca Carroll - Veterinarian
Dr. Carroll joined the veterinarian staff at Dakin in 2019. Previously she was an associate veterinarian with Second Chance Animal Service in Worcester and Brookfield, MA, an emergency clinician with Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in East Greenwich, RI and Bay State Veterinary Emergency Services in Swansea, MA, and an associate veterinarian at PawSteps Veterinary Center in Northbridge, MA. In addition to working as a relief or associate veterinarian in other New England-based organizations, Dr. Carroll also performed volunteer work in the Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre in Nepal, the Wildlife Friends of Thailand, and Free the Bears in Cambodia. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, West Indies, and a B. A. in Business from Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania. Dr. Carroll has two cats; Marsala and Turkelton, both of them feisty.
