Now Hiring: Full-Time Adoption Counselor

We need a full-time Adoption Counselor to join our team and deliver on our mission. As the only non-profit, full-service animal welfare organization serving our region, we need to save a lot of animals. You can help us do it.

We believe that people are good and will make good decisions for animals when they are treated with kindness and understanding and when they have enough information and resources. You are the person who will deliver on the kindness and understanding and who will provide the information and resources. In doing so, you'll change lives.

If you are an energetic go-getter who has a passion for helping people, but who also loves animals, solves problems, nails the details, and loves a challenge, we want to hear from you.  Also, be experienced in delivering customer service in a fast-paced environment (we're not kidding--this place gets hopping!) and know your way around a computer. You'll be helping people both on the phone and in person all day long. Your work will be split between our Springfield and Leverett locations (hint: you need to be able to get to Leverett where there is an abundance of fresh air, porcupines, and scenic views but no bus line. Where the heck is Leverett?). Also, we need to be sure you can be available both weekend days. What's the pay? $12.50 an hour. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme, but it's the hardest job you'll ever love.

Now Hiring: Manager of Behavior Services

Are you a behavior professional who has spent a lot of time thinking about what animal sheltering would look like when overpopulation became a thing of the past? As that’s become our reality, we’re helping animals with medical and behavioral challenges that we’d never have believed would be possible to help. Come join us on the forefront of animal welfare’s cutting edge.

Dakin’s in-house medical department and our feline behavior program are amazing. Our volunteer program is strong and growing. Our canine behavior program needs to be built (and let’s not forget about the small animals).

Our future work takes us out beyond our walls, to help animals living with families in our community, and will involve all departments.

Our annual animal intake is about 3,500 felines, 1,500 canines, and 900 small animals. The behavior department is 2-3 full time employees and countless volunteers.

If you have mad skills with both people and animals, and the idea of creating a top notch behavior program at one of New England’s premier animal shelters excites you, let’s talk.

If you are a CPDT (or equivalent experience), and have at least 4 years of dog training experience along with animal welfare experience, please use the form on the bottom of this page to apply.

If you already have your dream job, please pass this along to someone you think would be awesome.  Thank you.
