BE MINE: Loving Homes for Animals in Need

At Dakin, we have the privilege of witnessing new beginnings every time a shelter animal meets their new family, but the story doesn’t end there.

We receive so many updates and photos from our adopters it’s hard to keep track! Our hearts are warmed every time we see a photo of the familiar face of an animal we bonded with at the shelter, living their best life in a loving home.

Mandy shared her one-year adoptiversary with us with an update on Earl Grey. She said, “January marks our 1 year anniversary with our cat Earl Grey (formerly Harlan). Earl Grey was the last cat left from a transport and had been overlooked and identified as 'change is hard'. The care team at Dakin assured us that he was not a spirit cat and was quite friendly but just needed extra time to adjust to new surroundings. I'm so glad we decided to take in Earl Grey because he is indeed a loving, kind, cat that is a great compliment to our family.

Within the first week Earl Grey was confidently exploring our house and made fast friends with our other cat. Making friends and building trust with the humans did take longer. With time and lots of treats and patience I'm proud to say I have become Earl Grey's human companion! He loves rubs and to interrupt me when I read.”

Not long after reading Mandy’s story with Earl Grey, we got an email from Kaitlyn, who also had an update for us. This time, the update reflected on an adoption from 13 years ago! “Harry was adopted from Dakin in January 2011. I can't believe it's been almost 13 years already! Harry will be celebrating his 14th birthday in April. He is the sweetest, calmest boy; he is so intelligent and intuitive. He has been with us through thick and thin. We are so thankful that we were able to find and adopt Harry through Dakin! He's such a special part of our family. Thank you Dakin for giving us our best friend, and giving so many others their best friends too!”
